Abdullah asks UN to impose sanctions on Taliban leaders

 KABUL: CEO of the National Unity Government (NUG) Abdullah Abdullah has called on the UN Security Council’s Sanctions Committee to improve monitoring mechanisms and impose sanctions on Taliban’s leaders including Mullah Haibatullah Akhunzada, Abdullah’s office said in a statement Sunday night.

Abdullah Abdullah held a meeting in Kabul with the UNSC’s sanctions committee head Kairat Umarov on Sunday.

 According to the statement Abdullah Abdullah said: “Armed Taliban are ruthless killers of innocent Afghanistan people and they are responsible for the destruction of this country. They should be deemed as terrorists.” He also said the countries that categorize terrorists and good and bad groups are “making a big mistake”.
